When I was a kid, my mom would use this technique to set the mood for the holidays and it is my favorite tradition to carry on! There’s nothing like this cozy, festive aroma, and this simple stove top potpourri is a wonderful way to create that warm, inviting atmosphere without breaking the bank. It’s easy to make, completely customizable, and will have your house smelling like Christmas in no time (but not limited to Christmas time ofc!).

Ingredients:
I like to get everything from my local Trader Joes or Walmart!
- Orange slices
- Apple slices
- A handful of cranberries
- Generous splash of vanilla
- 1-2 cinnamon sticks (or ground cinnamon)
- 2 generous tablespoons pumpkin pie spice
- 2 generous tablespoons nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
Directions:
- Bring 3-4 cups of water to a boil.
- Add all ingredients to the pot once water is boiling.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer stirring occasionally, reduce heat to the lowest setting.
- Let it simmer and enjoy the delightful holiday scent for hours!
- Check the pot every hour and add more water and spices as needed to keep the aroma going all day long!
This easy stove top potpourri is a great way to set the mood for holiday gatherings or cozy nights in. Plus, it’s a perfect way to use up fruit that might be on its last leg.
Optional Add-ins:
- Fresh rosemary or pine sprigs for an earthy touch
- Whole cloves for a spicy, classic holiday scent
- Vanilla extract or a vanilla bean for added sweetness
- Star anise for a hint of licorice
